UKCP Registered Psychotherapist
My name is Cristina Durigon and I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I gained my diploma and Masters following a six years professional BACP accredited training at the Minster Centre. I offer one to one support to clients from a variety of backgrounds.
Being an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist means that I have combined a number of theories in my style to better suit my client’s needs. My main approaches include Relational Psychoanalysis, Humanistic and Body Work theories. I also consider the whole person - mind, body, thoughts and feelings - working in a way to integrate and balance these elements.
If working with me, we will take in consideration your past relationships and experiences and think how these are informing your life today. However, I also work focusing in the present, and my aim will be to help you to integrate your past with your present, and consider changes within that context. In addition to that, I will also pay attention to body movements, emotions, actions and what happens in "the here and now" counselling sessions and how these inform your process.
My goal is to provide you a safe, warm, supportive and confidential context where you can express yourself and your difficulties. I will offer you an opportunity to consider, together, potential changes that may bring relief for your distress. I will be alongside you, in a journey, helping you to have a deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself.
My professional experience includes counselling clients in the primary and secondary care services at the NHS. I have also worked for Mind in Tower Hamlets and at the Families without Fear Programme – a counselling service for survivors of domestic abuse. Besides that, I also worked at the IPTT - The Integrated Psychological Therapy Team at the University Hospital Lewisham (NHS) in the trauma department. This is a secondary care service and I saw clients who suffered complex trauma and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
In addition to my interest in trauma work, I am also increasingly interested in the new neuroscience discoveries and how early relationships and traumatic events may shape our emotional life and behaviour.
My background is in architecture/interior design and I have worked in this field for many years.
My services include short and long term psychotherapeutic work.
I offer therapeutic sessions in English and Portuguese.
