Paulo Câmara

UKCP Accredited Psychotherapist

About me

I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, an Accredited Member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and Accredited Member of United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

I offer regular long-term open-ended and time-limited psychotherapy to adults and adolescents facing a wide range of emotional issues. I also offer Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT).

I am particularly interested in problems related to difficulties in forming and sustaining relationships, depression, anxiety, loss and bereavement, sexuality, sexual identity, low self-esteem, issues regarding ageing and old age and exclusion among others. I am also interested in seeing overseas clients who may be facing issues living abroad and integrating into a new country, and those whose English is not their first language. I also offer psychotherapy in Portuguese.

I have been working in private practice (in Hove and London) and worked for six years at The Rock Clinic in Brighton, where I also assessed new clients. I worked on a voluntary basis for two years at WPF carrying out clients’ assessments. I have also worked as a volunteer for over 3 years at the Maudsley Hospital in London with older patients suffering from dementia.

Before working as a therapist, I worked for over 25 years in the field of transport, mainly with policies, travel behaviour, information systems, sustainable transport and research. I have worked extensively in academia, local government and the private sector in this country and abroad.

Training and qualification

I have qualified as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist at WPF in London, accredited by Roehampton University and the BACP. I undertook DIT training at WPF, accredited by the Tavistock & Portman and Anna Freud Centre as the Foundation Certificate in Counselling Skills.

I hold a PhD in Transport Planning (UCL), a MSc in Transport Engineering (Federal University Rio de Janeiro) and a first degree in Architecture and Urban Planning.

Although Therapport Limited, the owner of the practice, is thorough in checking the qualifications, insurance and professional registration of each of our practitioners, the relationship is ultimately between the client and the practitioner themselves. Therapport Limited provides space for clinicians and is not responsible for the clinical work they provide. Paulo Câmara is a UKCP Accredited Psychotherapist, therefore the complaints should be direct to United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
