Welcome to my page.
I’m a skilled, compassionate gestalt psychotherapist accredited with UKCP. I bring warmth, energy and commitment to my work with clients. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting clients from diverse backgrounds to come through a wide range of painful and challenging life events and experiences.
I offer longer-term open-ended therapy, usually for at least a year, to facilitate deeper exploration. I’m also available for shorter-term work, generally for 12-16 sessions, for people with a more specific concern.
In my experience, the starting point for good therapy is for you to feel safe to open up about what’s troubling you. So I attend closely to the quality of the therapeutic relationship. I listen deeply and carefully to what and how you tell me about yourself and your context. I’m responsive to what each person requires from therapy, working at a pace and depth that is right for you.
I’ll support you to become more aware, find greater clarity about what you want and experiment with different possibilities and choices. I may gently challenge some of beliefs that might be keeping you stuck but I don’t believe in forcing change. My approach to therapy is hopeful even in the midst of despair and anguish.
I worked as senior counsellor in a hospice for several years and so have extensive specialist expertise in palliative care and grief work. Previously I volunteered at a low-cost counselling service, working with people who experienced early abuse and neglect. Through this and my private practice, I have experience of wide-ranging issues, including anxiety, relationship difficulties, sexual violence, grief, fertility, low mood, chronic low self-esteem and life transitions such as retirement, ageing and serious illness.
